Spencer Pickren

I’ve been a dedicated distance runner for over 14 years, including competing as an NCAA Division I cross country and track & field athlete at Cal Poly. My development across events ranging from the 1500m to the 10,000m has been rooted in consistent, disciplined training, intention recovery, and the guidance of high-level coaching. As a coach, I bring an endurance training philosophy centered on building a strong aerobic foundation through controlled threshold work. I prioritize training that is both repeatable and sustainable, allowing athletes to progress steadily while minimizing burnout and injury. From this foundation, carefully timed strength sessions and anaerobic workouts are layered in to unlock speed, resilience and race-day toughness. In addition to traditional distance events, I’ve contributed to the design of an ultra-running training program, including supporting Ellie Baxter in her preparation for the Gorge Waterfalls 100k, where she placed 8th overall among women. I enjoy helping athletes of all levels find consistency, confidence, and long-term growth in their training.

- Achieved elite middle-distance performance with a personal best of 3:56.49 in the mile, breaking the 4-minute barrier multiple times across the 2024–2026 seasons - Set and currently hold the school record in the 3,000m (7:53), breaking the record three times - Qualified for the NCAA Division I First Round in the 1500m on three occasions - Earned three Big West Conference podium finishes, contributing to my team’s first-ever Division I Track & Field Conference Championships (2024, 2025) - Played a key role in two Division I Cross Country Conference Championship teams, finishing 6th in 2023 and 2nd in 2025 - Achieved personal bests of 3:39.56 (1500m), 13:50.59 (5,000m), 23:44 (8K XC), and 30:16 (10K XC) - Consistently competed at a high level across cross country, indoor, and outdoor seasons, demonstrating sustained excellence and progression
